Absalon Gagaza

Evidence-Based Health Promotion

Absalon Gagaza learned about strength training classes for older adults through word of mouth, like many in his group. He says the price is right — contributions are encouraged, but no one is turned away if it’s not within their budget.

He finds that an hour of stretching, bending, and pulling rubber straps to lively music and the instructor’s commands soothes the arthritis in his 69-year-old knees, hips, and shoulders.

"My range of movement has improved," Absalon says. "It’s really helping".

"This keeps me active and gives me something to look forward to — all positive things," he says.

Evidence-Based Health Promotion programs are among many services empowering older adults in California for 50 years and counting.
