Connecting with a clinical psychologist was "a lifesaver" for Jane Johnson. She cares for her 73-year-old husband, who has Alzheimer's, and she misses the long, deep conversations they used to have.

"If I hadn’t had her," Jane says of her therapist, "I don’t know what I would have done."

Jane’s nearby Caregiver Resource Center made it happen with a referral. California Caregiver Resource Centers also help caregivers navigate legal and medical paperwork, provide access to support groups, and send respite caregivers.

The support helps Jane savor moments when her husband acknowledges what she does.

"Sometimes at night," she says, "when he is settled in bed, he turns to me and says, ‘I love you.’"
