Intergenerational Activities

Young father Marcos Montes wore a contented smile as he watched his 4-year-old daughter, Zoe, draw and decorate a goose on butcher paper alongside older people she calls her "friends."

Zoe attends Choice in Learning preschool, and her older friends are participants in Choice in Aging’s Adult Day Health Care program. Once a week or so, both programs join in intergenerational activities like coloring, crafts, and parachute ball games.

"Seeing my daughter confident and comfortable around older people is valuable," Marcos says. He and his wife chose this preschool in part, he says, because of such innovations.

And it’s reassuring to see that people his parents’ age have a "great place to age with dignity," he says.

Bringing generations together to learn from each other is a positive example of services designed to enhance life for all Californians.
